About the Center

The IMPRI Center for Habitat, Urban and Regional Studies (CHURS) aims to offer periodic research feedback on monitoring, evaluation, and implementation of the ongoing schemes pertaining to sustainable habitat, human settlements, built environment, housing and infrastructural development and urban development, having knowledge of both emerging technologies and of social-engineering. While addressing the immediate needs of the new and current schemes, the focus is also on medium and long term issues.

The Center’s flagship event is the #WebPolicyTalk series, The State of Cities – #CityConversations.

CHURS aims to:

  • Undertake teaching and research studies on the trends and patterns of urbanization, nature, and character of emerging habitat, earning and saving pattern of the poor, their affordability of housing and basic services, changing socio-economic characteristics of the migrants, exclusionary character of the cities, among others.
  • Inform policy and update the urban vision of policymakers to re-examine their medium and long term strategies
  • Work in close coordination with policymakers, international institutions, national and local governments and institutions, practitioners, and other relevant stakeholders

CHURS, through its impactful contribution and significant collaboration, will act as a fundamental intellectual unit towards the issues of Housing and Urban Policy Affairs and ultimately the creation of 21st Century New India.
