Climate change is driving the increasing frequency of natural hazards and disasters, which in turn have profound health implications—ranging from the spread of infectious diseases to long-term physical and mental impacts. These consequences are not uniform; they vary greatly across populations and reveal stark gender-wise disparities. Climate change deepens existing social, economic, and environmental inequities, further widening the gap between the haves and have-nots. Gender is a critical determinant of health outcomes in this context, with women, girls, and other marginalized groups facing disproportionate risks and vulnerabilities. Low- and middle-income countries are especially affected, as weak economies, congested living conditions, and loss of livelihoods push communities to the brink. Migration due to soil erosion or the collapse of agricultural livelihoods often results in loss of education for girls, increased menial labor, and reduced access to healthcare. Urban migration further leads to ghettoization, heightened exposure to nutritional and infectious disorders, and the erosion of traditional health practices. Yet, these challenges can be mitigated. Education and awareness—particularly through embedding climate, health, and gender intersections into academic and professional spaces—are vital to fostering resilience. Recognizing this need, the online training certificate program “Gender, Climate and Health: Understanding the Disparities and Intersectional Impacts” has been designed to equip healthcare professionals, students, policymakers, and practitioners with the knowledge and tools to address these pressing issues and work toward more inclusive, intersectional solutions.
