About the Course: Perspectives on Gender through Healthcare Lens

Historically, the world over there has been a gender differential, and some countries have proactively worked in reducing this gap ushering in a semblance of equity. In India, there are more engaging discussions on gender, in social science departments and centers on women studies. Mainstream health universities and Medical Colleges and Health Care Institutions have largely stayed shy of this.

Despite the overall progress in medical and health care institutions, these still lack the thrust on gender sensitization, equity, gender responsiveness and gender audit to make gender in health care more mainstreamed. Healthcare textbooks still propagate gender stereotyping. Graduate and post-graduate students are not sensitized to gender diversity. Hospital wards and personnel find themselves at a loss, as to how to handle transgender people.

In order to bridge this gap, the Centre for Ethics (CFE) Yenepoya (deemed to be University), Mangalore and IMPRI Impact and Policy Research Institute, New Delhi are collaborating to conduct an Online Immersive Certificate Training Course on a wide range of well-curated topics over 3 consecutive Saturdays starting from 4 June 2022. The resource persons who have been chosen, have great experience, gained in the field along with the expertise. The topics cover a wide array of the gender canvas starting from gender in the human dignity and respect for persons to recognizing the rights of transgender persons.
