Dr Shahana Chattaraj
Director – Research Data & Innovation, WRI India; Visiting Fellow, Centre for Policy Research (CPR), New Delhi
Shahana Chattaraj is Director of Research, Data and Innovation at WRI India, and a visiting fellow at the Centre for Policy Research New Delhi. At WRI, she advises and mentors researchers across WRI programs and oversees research strategy and publications review, and is part of WRI’s global Governance, Poverty and Social Equity Task Force. Shahana’s own research focuses on urban governance, policy and planning; comparative urbanization and development; the informal economy and informalization and the future of work. She has published research on Industrial corridors and megaprojects, informal housing markets, Mumbai’s political economy and governance, and is currently co-investigator in an IDRC-funded project on Women, Work and the Gig Economy in India and Sri Lanka, in collaboration with CPR, Just Jobs Network, IIHS and LIRNEAsia.
Dr Chattaraj holds a PhD in Public Affairs from Princeton University, a masters in International Development Planning from MIT, and an undergraduate degree in architecture from SPA, New Delhi. She has worked for several years as a programme specialist in the United Nations’ Population Fund in New York, and been a consultant with the World Bank’s Development Research Group.
