Overview
The International Day of Women in Diplomacy, observed on June 24 as proclaimed by the UN General Assembly, celebrates the vital contributions of women to diplomacy while highlighting the ongoing need for gender equality in this sphere. It is an occasion to honor the accomplishments of women diplomats, acknowledge their perseverance in overcoming systemic barriers, and advocate for a more inclusive and equitable global order.
Since 2014, several countries have adopted or pledged to adopt Feminist Foreign Policies (FFPs). Yet, many of these initiatives face criticism for offering symbolic or “feminism-lite” approaches that emphasize aid and representation while neglecting deeper questions of intersectionality, peacebuilding, and justice. At the same time, women and non-binary individuals in the Global South have long advanced feminist values through struggles against colonialism, advocacy for food sovereignty, inclusive legislative reforms, and the use of international law to safeguard rights. Their legacy of feminist praxis must inform the future of truly transformative foreign policy.
This program seeks to engage with these questions by examining the theory and practice of feminist diplomacy in depth. It will explore what pro-gender approaches to foreign policy entail, how they differ from conventional frameworks, and what lessons can be drawn from global experiences.
Through interactive discussions on the foundations of feminist foreign policy, real-world case studies, and emerging global practices, the program offers participants a space for critical reflection and dialogue. By analyzing motivations, implementation strategies, and implications, it aims to equip participants with the tools to reimagine diplomacy as a pathway to equity, justice, and global inclusion.

The program will be beneficial for international relations academicians, scholars, and students; diplomats, diplomatic organizations, and institutions; journalists, media personnel; early career professionals and anyone interested in feminism, global politics, and the intersection of the two.
