Prof Kala Seetharam Sridhar, Professor, Centre for Research in Urban Affairs (CRUA), Institute for Social and Economic Change
Kala S Sridhar is Professor, Centre for Research in Urban Affairs, Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bengaluru. She was earlier with Public Affairs Centre, as Ford Public Affairs Fellow, before which she was at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi, and taught at the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, as Assistant and Associate Professor. She has been a visiting scholar at UNU-WIDER, Helsinki, Finland, multiple times.
She has authored or edited books published by Oxford University Press, Palgrave Macmillan, Springer, Routledge and Sage, and has published papers in journals which include Regional Science and Urban Economics, Urban Studies, Applied Economics, Area Development & Policy and Environment and Urbanization Asia, among others. She is on the Editorial board of several journals, on expert committees of the government on urban development, and is frequently consulted by multilateral institutions such as the Asian Development Bank for research advice.
She has been awarded the Fulbright Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence fellowship for 2020-21, and will be hosted by the University of California Los Angeles. She is among the top 10% of authors globally on the Social Science Research Network. She has a Ph.D. (Public Policy & Management) from the Ohio State University, USA, M.S. (Urban & Regional Planning) from the University of Iowa, and M.A. (Economics) from the University of Mysore.

About the Talk
An Additional Anathema for Our Cities and Policy Directions

This special talk will first discuss the relationship between urbanization and per capita income globally, then the urbanization trends in India, if our definition were to be more relaxed; This is followed by a description of the size distribution of cities; In the pre-COVID cities, transport, commute time and congestion were an important part of their economy; hence these aspects are discussed, before a presentation of findings related to urbanization, urban primacy and Covid-19 prevalence. Relevant and frequently asked questions for cities such as to what would happen to them in the post COVID-19 world and if there are benefits to the post-pandemic world will be presented. The special talk will end by highlighting policy directions and lessons for cities in the post pandemic world.
