About the Talk -Employment Scenario, Policy and AtmaNirbhar packages amid Pandemic: Impact, Challenges and the Way Forward

After briefly discussing the current employment scenario, the talk will focus on the approach of the government’s Atmanirbhar package in addressing the problem of unemployment. While the government raised the allocation for MNREGA to address the problem of rising rural unemployment due to the influx of migrant workers, the proposal to implement an urban replica of MNREGA has been dropped for now. This seems to be a prudent strategy given the challenges of urban infrastructure and resource constraints faced by the urban local bodies. In the Atmanirbhar 3.0 package, the Government has given incentives to companies to employ workers. The talk will discuss these issues and will conclude with some thoughts on the way forward.
