About the Talk

Has the Urban been Depoliticized?

This presentation will discuss the quantification of urban situation in India. Analysing parliamentary debates from 1953 to 2014 around slums, the presentation will build a case on how slums in particular and cities in general have been depoliticized in the Parliament. The presentation will showcase the rationality and discourse which legitimizes state actions and uncovers how slums were discursively produced.
