Shripad Dharmadhikary, Founder-coordinator, Manthan Adhyayan Kendra, Barwani

Shripad Dharmadhikary is an activist and researcher, and the founder-coordinator of Manthan Adhyayan Kendra, a centre focussed on analytical and advocacy work in the water and energy sectors. His focus is on working to help shift the water sector in the county towards a more equitable, just and sustainable path. His areas of work include water policy and programs; river and water resource management especially using the environment flows approach; dams, hydropower and irrigation; privatisation and commodification in water; impacts of coal on water, and national inland waterways. He is a graduate in mechanical engineering from IIT Bombay (Mumbai) and was a full time activist with the Narmada Bachao Andolan, the mass movement of people affected by the dams on Narmada river, for 12 years.

He was a member of Government of India’s Planning Commission’s two Working Groups in 2010-12 for 12th Plan on Urban and Industrial Water Supply, and on Model Bill for State Water Regulatory System. He was an Academic Visitor at the Stranded Assets Program, Smith School of Enterprise and The Environment, University of Oxford, U.K. from May 2015 to Dec 2015.

He is a member of the Forum for Policy Dialogue on Water Conflicts in India and also on its Steering Committee.

He has close links with grassroots groups and campaigns. He writes extensively on water, rivers and related issues and is involved in capacity building and training.
