World Health Day-Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures: 7th April, 2025

Every year on 7th April, global health awareness is propagated in the form of World Health Day. It is one of the 11 official global health campaigns initiated by WHO. The day is recognized by various international governments, non-governmental organizations, and other public health authorities.

National Solar Mission, 2010

The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission was part of the National Action Plan on Climate Change. It was launched in January 2010 under the brand ‘Solar India.’ The mission aimed to promote sustainable development using solar energy and compete with traditional sources of electricity. The mission’s ultimate objective was to establish India as a global leader in solar energy. With the accessibility of extended hours of sunlight, India has excellent solar energy potential. According to the National Institute of Solar Energy, India's solar potential is 748 GW with 3% of wasteland to install solar PV modules.

As India marches toward being a $5 trillion economy, PMGSY remains an important tool for inclusive growth. The scheme is a model of how focused development of infrastructure can spur multidimensional development results in rural India.

National Safe Motherhood Day: 11 April

National Safe Motherhood Day must, therefore, be more than a symbolic gesture. It must act as a catalyst for deeper reforms, pushing for improved last-mile delivery of services, cultural sensitization, and robust monitoring of maternal health schemes.

Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDKY) 

The Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDKY) was introduced in the Union Budget 2025-26 to revitalize India’s agricultural sector, particularly in 100 underdeveloped agricultural districts. These districts were selected based on low productivity, moderate crop intensity, and below-average credit flow. The policy aims to enhance agricultural yields, improve rural infrastructure, increase financial access for farmers, and promote sustainable farming practices. By integrating modern agricultural techniques with institutional credit and storage facilities, PMDKY is expected to benefit approximately 1.7 crore farmers (Press Information Bureau, 2025).

World Wetlands Day- 2nd February: A call for Wetland Protection and Restoration

Every year on February 2nd, the world observes World Wetlands Day. This day marks a pivotal moment for the international community as on this day in 1971, the “Ramsar Convention on Wetlands” was adopted in the Iranian city of Ramsar providing a worldwide forum on emphasizing and spreading awareness on the significant role that wetlands play in maintaining the ecosystem, biodiversity, controlling the circulation of water, acting as reservoirs, and helping civilizations to flourish.
