Prof M H Bala Subrahmanya, Professor, Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India

He was the Chairman of the Department during September 2010-October 2016. He has done M.A. (First Rank and Gold Medalist) at Mysore University and Ph.D. in Economics at Institute for Social & Economic Change, Bangalore. He joined Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore as an Assistant Professor in May 1996, promoted as an Associate Professor in May 2002, and further as a Professor in May 2008. During his professional career he received Commonwealth Fellowship (1999-2000); Japan Foundation Fellowship (2004/2005); and Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Fellowship (2009/2010). He has worked as a Visiting Research Fellow at University of Durham, UK (February-July 2000); National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) Tokyo, Japan (March 2005 – February 2006); and at University of California, Davis, USA (September 2009 – April 2010). He has been serving IISc., Bangalore Since May 1996.

He has more than 100 publications to his credit comprising research papers in refereed national and international journals, International Conferences, books and monographs. Some of the reputed Journals in which he has published his research papers are: Economic & Political Weekly, Energy Conversion & Management, Energy Policy, International Journal of Innovation Management, International Journal of Technology Management, Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship, Journal of Engineering & Technology Management, Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management, Small Enterprise Development and Technovation, among others. He has carried out 14 sponsored research & consultancy projects, guided 13 students for the Ph.D. degree of IISc. And guiding eight more students for Ph.D. His field of specialization is Industrial Economics. He is currently on the Editorial Board of the following Journals:
