About
The panel discussion “Inside the Four Labour Codes” brings together leading experts, practitioners, and policy thinkers to unpack the transformative changes introduced through India’s new labour law framework—the Code on Wages, Industrial Relations Code, Code on Social Security, and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code.
As India transitions to a consolidated and modernised labour regulatory regime, these Codes aim to streamline compliance, strengthen worker protection, and enhance the ease of doing business. However, their implementation has raised critical questions relating to federalism, informal sector inclusion, employer responsibilities, and the overall implications for labour rights, social security, and industrial relations.
This session offers an in-depth exploration of the key provisions, reforms, and on-ground challenges associated with the Four Labour Codes. Through an interactive discussion, the panel will provide clarity on the Codes’ objectives, areas of contention, and the road ahead for creating a balanced and equitable labour ecosystem.
Objectives
- To demystify the key provisions and reforms introduced under each of the Four Labour Codes and explain their intended purpose.
- To analyse the implications for workers, employers, and governments, particularly in relation to labour rights, compliance frameworks, and social security.
- To examine implementation challenges and state-level readiness, including concerns around the informal workforce, enforcement capacity, and institutional restructuring.
- To foster an informed dialogue on the future of labour governance in India, highlighting opportunities for creating a more transparent, efficient, and inclusive labour market.
