Dr Scott Stroud
Associate Professor of Communication Studies Moody College of Communication, The University of Texas at Austin

Dr. Scott R. Stroud is an Associate Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He writes on various topics in ethics, rhetoric, and philosophy. He is the author of two academic books, John Dewey and the Artful Life and Kant and the Promise of Rhetoric. He is the co-founder of the first “Center for John Dewey Studies” in India at Savitribai Phule Pune University. Currently he is completing a book manuscript that tells the story of Bhimrao Ambedkar’s brush with Deweyan pragmatism at Columbia University during 1913-1916 and how it shaped his innovative pursuit of social justice in India.

Independent Scholar

Dr. Umakant works as an independent Scholar and is based in New Delhi. He has done M.A., M. Phil., and Ph. D in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He has been working on the issues related to Dalit Politics, Dalit Leadership, Dalit Human Rights issues in particular and other human rights issues in general on India in particular and South Asia as well for more than two decades by now. He has authored several reports on important matters some of which were submitted to UN bodies.

He co-edited a book with Sukhadeo Thorat (Caste, Race and Discrimination: Discourses in International Context, Rawat Publication, New Delhi, 2004). He also prepared course materials for Post-Graduate level course through E- PG Pathshala and also for a new Certificate Programme on Life and Thought of B. R. Ambedkar at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. He recently gave a special lecture to students of MA Social Work, TISS, Mumbai on ‘Dalits in South Asia: An Overview’. His latest publication is a chapter in Vol. 3, of “B. R. Ambedkar: The Quest for Justice, edited by Aakash Singh Rathore, OUP New Delhi.
