About

The Feminist Foreign Policy Fellowship (FFPF) is a pioneering initiative jointly organized by The Asia Foundation, New Delhi, Center for International Relations and Strategic Studies, and the Gender Impact Studies Center (GISC), IMPRI Impact and Policy Research Institute, New Delhi. This fellowship is designed to explore and advance the concept of Feminist Foreign Policy (FFP) within the Indian and global contexts.

FFP is an approach to foreign policy that prioritizes gender justice and equality, rooted in humanitarian principles, and committed to dismantling oppressive structures that dominate global politics. In a world where international relations are often dictated by hierarchical power dynamics, FFP seeks to drive substantive change by ensuring that the voices, experiences, and perspectives of women and marginalized groups are not just included but central to the discourse.

India, with its complex social fabric and entrenched gender inequalities, presents a unique context for the exploration and potential adoption of an FFP framework. By delving into the Indian context, this fellowship aims to provide fresh perspectives to India’s foreign policy machinery, while also contributing to the global dialogue on how developing democratic nations, particularly those with deep-rooted patriarchal cultures, can embrace and benefit from FFP principles.

The FFPF is an opportunity for emerging leaders, scholars, and practitioners to engage deeply with the theoretical and practical dimensions of FFP. Through this fellowship, participants will have the chance to contribute to meaningful discussions, research, and initiatives that could shape a more just, equitable, and inclusive world order.

For Whom

The Feminist Foreign Policy Fellowship (FFPF) is ideal for emerging leaders, scholars, policymakers, and practitioners with a keen interest in gender justice, international relations, and foreign policy. It is designed for individuals who are passionate about challenging traditional power dynamics in global politics and are eager to contribute to the development of a more equitable and inclusive foreign policy framework. This fellowship is especially relevant for those committed to integrating feminist principles into diplomatic and international strategies.

Applicants from Global South will be encouraged to apply.

Creative Project

As a part of the Feminist Foreign Policy Fellowship (FFPF), participants have the unique opportunity to contribute as individual chapter authors in a special edition of IMPRI Books. This project allows fellows to deeply engage with critical issues related to Feminist Foreign Policy, exploring how gender justice can reshape international relations and global diplomacy. Participants can choose topics within the broader FFP framework, such as integrating feminist principles into foreign policy, the intersection of gender and security, the role of women in peacebuilding, deconstructing patriarchal structures in international organizations, or India’s potential adoption of FFP strategies.

Fellows are encouraged to present their creative projects through various mediums—visual, aural, or narrative-enabling them to express their research in innovative and impactful ways.

Please note: Fellows are required to submit a research article, which may include multimedia elements for the anthology, and present their work in one of the aforementioned formats on the designated presentation dates.

Application Process

The participants of the fellowship will be evaluated in two rounds. The first round would involve submission of a comprehensive application via a google form specifically designed for the fellowship. It will contain questions about the personal and professional details of the interested candidates, and most importantly Statement of Motivation to join this fellowship. The Statement of Motivation will be evaluated for assessing the originality, ingenuity, and passion for pursuing this fellowship.

In the second and final round, applicants selected from the first round will be required to submit their CV, tentative topic title and abstract for the research essay along with a writing sample of about 500-750 words followed by an interview through video conferencing.
Total Number of Seats: The fellowship will be open to a limited number of seats of 45.
An important aspect to be kept in mind during selection process will be to not limit the fellowship to only Indian nationals, rather create an equal opportunity for youth from global south.
