The State of Statistics – #DataDiscourses

A #WebPolicyTalk series by the #IMPRI Generation Alpha Data Centre (Gen Alpha DC)

There have been various developments in the structures and focus areas in the systems of official and non-official statistics in India, in the past decades. The types of datasets available for various economic sectors and other areas have been ever-evolving and undergo dynamic changes owing to real-time measurement and analysis using ICT. The credibility and utility of the available data, along with the reliability of the country’s public and private data architecture and systems of statistics, remains a crucial challenge. Adopting, and adapting to, new and ever-evolving technologies and processes is a challenge of paramount importance for these statistical systems. Further, the role of strengthening realtime and Management Information Systems’ data to enable evidence-based policymaking and planning must be emphasised, especially amid the current and unprecedented health crisis –  COVID-19.

With the above background, Gen Alpha DC at IMPRI is carrying out a discussion series called The State of Statistics – #DataDiscourses to engage with experts on issues of data and statistics. The experts share their insights on the challenges and way forward in achieving accountable and effective statistical systems and data architecture and the impacts thereof.

The #WebPolicyTalks are conducted via Zoom webinars and streamed live on Facebook. The event video is available on the IMPRI YouTube Channel, thereafter. A recording of the session is also available on the #WebPolicyTalk: Live at IMPRI podcast, on Spotify and Google Podcasts.
