About

IMPRI Impact and Policy Research Institute, New Delhi, welcomes you to the Online Model United Nations Competition on Climate Change. This prestigious competition is designed to provide the participants with a unique platform to engage in diplomatic dialogue, peaceful negotiations, collaborate on problem-solving to combat the pressing issue of climate change and experience the art of diplomacy firsthand. It provides a platform to foster a deeper understanding of Model United Nations (MUNs) and developing crucial skills such as effective speaking, persuasive debating, and the art of negotiation.

Led by internationally renowned thematic experts, practitioners, and diplomats, this unique mix of expert lecture followed by participant engagement promises an enriching and immersive experience. Participants will step into the shoes of diplomats representing various countries, taking on critical roles to simulate real United Nations climate change negotiations.

The United Nations and UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) have been at the centre of climate negotiations going on for the last two decades, starting from the Kyoto Protocol,1997. Such negotiations require not only skill but patience to carve out a clear picture of complex issues of adaptation and mitigation as responses to climate change. To do so, a diplomat needs to be well aware of the issues in climate change negotiations. Participants will be encouraged to think critically, collaborate with peers, and articulate their perspectives on mitigating climate change and promoting sustainable practices.

In light of these global diplomatic efforts, the IMPRI Center for International Relations and Strategic Studies is proud of its Model United Nations (MUN) on Climate Change. This MUN will offer a first-hand experience of being a delegate of a country in the Model United Nations, negotiating responses to climate change. Also, it will be a chance to be a diplomat in the presence of senior experts who will also be attending the session.
