Indian Rural Economy: A Closer Look at the Issues

This marginalization of the rural economy is a result of the policymakers’ focus being on the organized part — the modern part of the economy. Modernization of the economy has been taken to be the copying of western modernity. India has not attempted its own modernity suited to the needs of the vast majority living in rural areas. No wonder the agriculture sector which provides the most important item of consumption — food — has been marginalized.

The India-Egypt Ties: An Economic Perspective

Consistent with India’s new generation of intertwined economic and security agreements to facilitate its emergence as one of the major powers, India has invited President El Sisi of the Arab Republic of Egypt (henceforth Egypt), as a Chief Guest for the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2023. There is significant scope for mutually beneficial cooperation in international trade and in macroeconomic and fiscal management between India and Egypt, an influential nation of over 100 million people, straddling Asia and Africa, as explained below.

Mission Karmayogi: Civil Servants Capacity Building Program

Prime Minister stated “Mission Karmayogi is a new experiment of its kind in the direction of capacity building. Through this mission, government employees have to modernize their thinking, and approach and improve their skill set. It is to allow them to become a Karmayogi…”Moreover, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba launched the Approach paper on Annual Capacity Building Plans for Central Ministries and Departments under “Mission Karmayogi” 

One Nation One Fertilizer

The government issued an order requiring all businesses to market their goods under the brand name "Bharat" in order to standardize fertilizer brands across the nation. Under this scheme, all fertilizer companies will be manufacturing fertilizers under one brand name which will ensure uniformity and reduce confusion among farmers. The budget for fertilizer subsidies has been increased to 25% as compared to last year. This scheme will also ensure cost-effectiveness.
