The Intriguing Dynamics of the US Presidential Election: A Critical Analysis

A year from now, the US will have a new President but the nation's electoral challenge is getting curiouser and curiouser. An incumbent President, despite all his efforts, is unable to generate enthusiasm and a potential challenger is unable to get any relief from the courts. And the two main political parties seem rudderless. There are a number of ostensible challengers to President Joe Biden among the Democrats and in the Republican ranks. But no one has been to make a breakthrough of the kind that is usually expected at this stage in the election cycle. American democracy looks stale and tired precisely at a time when it should be leading the march in salvaging the credentials of the western democratic model.

Managing fires without harming farmers

SENIOR officials of the government are certainly very different from quantum particles. Yet, both have a common quality: their state changes when they are observed — the very act of observation induces the change. Now that the Supreme Court has ordered the authorities of north Indian states to put an end to stubble burning, leaving it to them to figure out how, we can expect to see some action. Here are a few suggestions as to how to act on the court directive without creating a conflict with farmers, who need to clear their fields of the crop residue in order to plant the next crop.

Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023

Bharatiya Sakshya Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on 11 August 2023 amongst the three other Bills, namely, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023 and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita Bill, 2023 with a promise to protect the rights of all Indian citizens. The Bharatiya Sakshya Bill would abolish the current Indian Evidence Act of 1872 whereas Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill would replace the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and Bharatiya Nagarik Surasha Sanhita Bill would replace Code of Criminal Procedure 1973.
