Citizen Centric Public Policy Formation

Mr. V. Ramakrishnan started the session by comparing Public Policy as a compass and strategy as GPS. He says that policy has to be derived from strategy. Your strategy is to improve the life of the citizens and everything is derived from it, be it security, health, food, transport, etc. He says that in any public policy, the elements of economic dimensions, political requirements and social factors have to work in a synchronized manner. It is only at the interface of all these aspects, that actually defines what a citizen is.

Trudeau’s Intentions and Indo-Canada Relations

Canada might not be a very large country, but it has been broadly supportive of Independent India’s development.

All those that take the sword shall perish by the sword. Good Christians recognise this as a sayingof Christ. All sensible people, Christian or otherwise, recognise the validity of the aphorism.

Early Careers in​ Public Policy

Third speaker for the day was Mr Yash Agarwal​​​, Founder​, ​Public Policy India. He opened up by sharing his own experience in the field. I talked to multiple new people every day almost for 2000 people in the last four years about careers right and just mentoring people to help build careers in this broader policy government space. Mr. Agarwal answered questions from the audience, providing valuable advice and perspectives on entering the public policy domain.

Cities, Local Governance & Public Policy

Mr. Tikender Singh Panwar provides a historical perspective on the development of cities in India, highlighting the evolution of urbanization, governance structures, and urban design. He begins with ancient civilizations, such as Mohenjo-Daro, emphasizing that even in these early times, urban planning and architectural skills were evident. He points out that early cities in India were not necessarily ruled by a single autocrat but had participatory and democratic elements.

Environment & Public Policy

The session was opened by Prof Mukul Asher Former Professor Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore; Visiting Distinguished Professor, IMPRI. For the day7, he introduced the two major issues that are of High degree significance for India and one of which is the environment and Public policy. India needs to make progress in the environment Arena for its own National goals. Another issue, which is very domestic, that enough attention is not paid to India’s Urban-rural bodies and their governance.
