About
Building on the success of the first cohort, the IMPRI Impact and Policy Research Institute is excited to present the second cohort of the Young Women Leaders in Public Policy Fellowship. This three-month program, from January 5 to April 6, 2025, draws inspiration from the 2024 International Women’s Day theme: “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.”
While strides have been made in women’s leadership, gender inequality still prevails. Recent data shows that women occupy just over a quarter of parliamentary seats worldwide and less than a quarter of ministerial roles. Women’s unique insights and collaborative methods foster policies that are more inclusive and beneficial to society as a whole.
In India, the mandate reserving one-third of local governance seats for women has enabled over a million women to engage in political leadership. However, societal biases and cultural norms still hinder true gender equality, often restricting women’s influence in decision-making. Promoting women in leadership roles is not only a matter of justice but also a strategy for creating more inclusive and equitable communities.
This fellowship offers aspiring women leaders the chance to engage in meaningful discussions, share insights, and connect with experts and peers in public policy. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct research on topics of their choice and have their findings published in IMPRI’s edited volume, which will have its own ISBN. The program includes a special session on International Women’s Day, March 8th, and requires participants to submit essays on relevant policy topics. Through theoretical learning, practical application, and networking opportunities, this fellowship aims to empower young women to become effective leaders in shaping a more inclusive and equitable future.
