Aajeevika- National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), 2011

Back in June 2011, the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India, launched the Aajeevika- Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). It is one of the flagship programs to alleviate poverty, which aims to reduce poverty by enabling poor households to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities, resulting in sustainable and diversified livelihood options for the poor.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated on January 9th once in every two years to acknowledge the contributions made by the Overseas Indian community to the welfare and development of India. It is celebrated with different themes in different states of India each time. It commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to Mumbai, India on January 9, 1915. The PBD was first established in 2003, by the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to engage with the overseas Indian community.

National Education Policy (NEP) 2020: Reshaping Indian Education for the 21st Century

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, is India’s first education of the 21st century. This replaced the National Policy on Education which was released in 1986. The NEP 2020 was released on 29 July 2020. This scheme aims to bring a transformation in the Indian education system into an inclusive, flexible, multidisciplinary, and holistic system. It envisions to create a “vibrant knowledge society” and establish India as a global knowledge superpower. 

World Wetlands Day- 2nd February: A call for Wetland Protection and Restoration

Every year on February 2nd, the world observes World Wetlands Day. This day marks a pivotal moment for the international community as on this day in 1971, the “Ramsar Convention on Wetlands” was adopted in the Iranian city of Ramsar providing a worldwide forum on emphasizing and spreading awareness on the significant role that wetlands play in maintaining the ecosystem, biodiversity, controlling the circulation of water, acting as reservoirs, and helping civilizations to flourish.
