Jan Vishwas Bill: 2022

The Jan Vishwas bill was recently passed and made into Law. It claimed to promote trust-based governance, ease of living and business, and enhancement of individual liberty. It attempts to do so by decriminalization of various offenses, periodic increase in penalties, and creation of new adjudicating officers overseeing penalties. As the Bill has recently been passed, we do not have empirical evidence of the policies. While the bill claim to achieve a lot, it isn’t entirely clear whether it is up to the challenge. There are also certain interesting changes made by the Jan Vishwas Bill, which may not entirely come under the ethos of the Bill. A critical analysis of the Bill, with arguments and evidence from various sources will helps us understand it better, and point out any possible concerns and flaws in the Bill.

G20 Presidency: India’s Path to Global Leadership

The G20 was conceived in 1999 in the wake of the Asian financial crisis as a platform for finance ministers and central bank governors to deliberate on issues pertaining to global finance and economy. In 2008, it was elevated to include the heads of State against the backdrop of global recession. Today, representing more than 80 per cent of the world’s GDP, 75 per cent of global trade, and 60 per cent of the global population amid a crisis of global multilateralism, G20 has emerged as a premier forum for deliberation on global issues.

Affordable Rental Housing Scheme (ARHC): State of Play

The Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHC) scheme was introduced in July 2020 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, as a part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana—Urban (PMAY-U). The reverse migration brought on by the COVID pandemic-induced lockdown is what brought attention to ARHC’s mission to provide rental homes for the urban poor and migrants. The PMAY-U mission phase and the ARHC plan both end in March 2022. This article evaluates the present condition of the plan’s implementation—its evolving modalities, stakeholder participation, and current status—given its significance as India’s first national rental housing scheme with only a few months left to call for bids and award projects.
