Where Does a Woman Belong? Unspoken Truths of Gender-Based Violence and Its Impact on Childhood Development

Gender-based violence (GBV) is an ever-present reality in many communities, yet it remains a topic shrouded in silence. While its direct impact on women is often acknowledged, the effect it has on the early development of children is rarely spoken about. These children are not just bystanders; they are silent victims, absorbing the trauma around them and often replicating the cycle as they grow.

The Dark Side of Migration: Trafficking of Women for Domestic Labour in Jharkhand

Migration is often seen as a pathway to better opportunities, but for many women in Jharkhand, it becomes a trap leading to exploitation and violence. Jharkhand is a state with high out-migration rates and witnesses a significant number of women and young girls leaving their villages in search of employment due to poverty and lack of employment. However, the migration process is often contaminated by illegal placement agencies that exploit the vulnerabilities of individuals by using pieces of employment information.

Impactful Policy Research in Social Sciences (IMPRESS) 2018

To revolutionize India's policy research space in the true sense, IMPRESS has to move beyond being a selective academic grant program to being an inclusive national knowledge production machine. As a young researcher, I envision the future of policy innovation occurring in open, diverse, and democratized research environments, not in hierarchical constraints. Visualizing IMPRESS in this way will not only establish it as a funding program, but as a driving force for India's intellectual and socio-economic balance.

The United States’ rapid abandonment of conflict-ridden countries will only escalate the peripheral status of these nations, causing a great deal of pain to women, children, and the gender diverse individuals, who are already marginalized. It becomes all the more essential to divulge in talks on feminist foreign policies that need to be put on the forefront, to stand against gender apartheid, on a global scale.

National Safe Motherhood Day: 11 April

National Safe Motherhood Day must, therefore, be more than a symbolic gesture. It must act as a catalyst for deeper reforms, pushing for improved last-mile delivery of services, cultural sensitization, and robust monitoring of maternal health schemes.

Weakened Sexual Assault Verdicts Undermine Both Gender Justice and Economic Progress

It is welcome that a Supreme Court bench comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice AG Masih have stayed the order of Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra of the Allahabad High Court that had downgraded the criminal offence of attempt to rape determined by a lower court to a lesser charge of assault or use of criminal force with intent to disrobe, and aggravated sexual assault. This matters not just for gender justice, and social justice (the accused and the victim are from different castes separated by a power differential), but also for India’s economic prospects.
