Private Capital and Climate Change: Rethinking Climate Financing Pathways

The Post-war world order has thrived under the ambit of individualism and private capital, driven primarily by the motive of profit maximization, well-supplemented by unlimited access to fossil fuels. The world order, however, is rapidly changing, bringing in new challenges and risks that state capacity alone cannot tackle. Here comes the role of private capital to not just provide scalable solutions to these externality problems, but also to create new financing opportunities in the climate sector, thus helping us transition to net zero goals by 2050.

Violence Against Women and Response of Women’s Movements in India

An informative and elucidating online panel discussion on “Domestic Violence and Abuse: Challenges and Responses” was an initiative of the Gender Impact Studies Center (GISC), at the IMPRI Impact and Policy Research Institute, New Delhi held on December 19, 2022. The program included an insightful and enriching discussion delivered by eminent speakers, Advocate Gayatri Sharma, Prof Vijaylakshmi Brara, Dr Tara Nair, Adv Celin Thomas, Dr Keerthi Bollineni, and Anchita Ghatak. Prof Vibhuti Patel chaired the session. The session was opened with introductory and welcoming remarks from Professor Vibhuti Patel and was further moderated by her. On the first day, our second speaker, Professor Vibhuti Patel, Vice President, Indian Association for Women’s Studies, proceeded with the session by delivering a presentation on Violence Against Women and Response of Women’s Movements in India.

Wildlife Protection and Amendment Bill 2021: Safeguarding Biodiversity for the Future Generations

While tracing the historical context of wildlife protection in India the article examines the proposed 2021 Wildlife Protection and Amendment Bill, emphasizing the implementation of Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES) and protection of endangered species. The Bill addresses controlling invasive alien species, regulating trade in live elephants, and establishing conservation reserves. Concerns are raised about vague provisions, incomplete species lists, and climate change impacts. Despite some drawbacks, the Bill focuses on ecological balance and safeguarding India's flora and fauna, necessitating careful consideration and comprehensive policy implementation.

Competition (Amendment) Act 2023: A Step Towards Promoting Competition in India

The Competition (Amendment) Bill 2023 was passed by the Indian Parliament on March 29, 2023. The bill amends the Competition Act, 2002, which was the primary law governing competition in India. The amendments aim to strengthen the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and make it more effective in preventing and punishing anti-competitive practices. It is too early to assess the impacts it has brought, as the act has been in development partially.
