EWS Reservation: A Flawed Judgement and Policy

The split ruling of the Supreme Court, endorsing the validity of the 103rd Amendment to the Constitution to create a 10 per cent reservation quota exclusively for the poor (EWS) among the socially privileged, excluding the poor among the socially disprivileged, is bad in law, deficient in logic and oblivious of alternative designs for affirmative action.

Supreme Court Overrules the Litigious Enthusiasm of State Functionaries

The Supreme Court passed an order last week placing a fine of ₹1 lakh on an officer of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), to be deducted from his salary, for filing an appeal in the apex court against the bail granted by the Allahabad High Court to a cancer patient in a money laundering case. This is a most welcome development.
