GREENE – An E-Waste Awareness Initiative – 2015

The Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors (SPECS), launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in April 2020, is a significant policy lever under the National Policy on Electronics (NPE) 2019. India's electronics sector is likely to grow to USD 300 billion by 2026 (MeitY Vision Document, 2022), but 85–90% of electronic components continue to be imported, exposing severe risks to supply chain sovereignty, cost competitiveness, and strategic autonomy.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra (PBK), currently called Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, is a pioneering institutional setup devised by the Government of India to enhance relations with the Indian diaspora across the globe. Established to combat exploitation and streamline support systems, PBSK operates under the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) with a mandate rooted in emergency assistance, legal empowerment, and preventive diplomacy.
