Smoke & Mirrors: Exposing the Tobacco Industry’s Playbook for Hooking Kids

Tobacco use remains a critical public health issue worldwide, contributing significantly to disease and death. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), tobacco use accounts for 25 per cent of all cancer deaths globally. It is directly linked to various types of cancer, respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and other severe health problems. Annually, over 8 million people die from tobacco-related causes, including around 1.2 million non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke.

A Lifeline for Widows: Insights into the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS)

Like many other countries, India struggles to meet the needs of its vulnerable populations — especially widowed women who often experience social exclusion and financial hardship. In response to this pressing issue, the Government of India introduced the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS) in 2009.

Chabahar Port: India-Iran Deal & US Sanctions

On May 13, India and Iran formally signed a 10-year agreement for management and development of the strategically located Chabahar Port in southeastern Iran. Until now there has been an annual contract awarded to India Port Global Ltd (IPGL). Indian Minister of Shipping Sarbanand Sonowal travelled to Iran to witness the signing ceremony of this important connectivity initiative which provides access to Afghanistan and Central Asia as well as larger Eurasia and the Caucasus. However, this progress was quickly eclipsed by a sanctions warning from the US.
