Men's involvement in maintaining or destroying patriarchy is highlighted in current talks, but the topic needs to go beyond recognizing privilege or encouraging allyship.
Launching the National Quantum Mission ensures India's proactive participation in the global quantum revolution. As nations worldwide intensify their investments in quantum research, the competitive landscape is becoming increasingly technology-driven. Through this mission, India is not just a participant but a significant contributor and creator of advanced quantum solutions. The mission is based on the understanding that quantum technologies will be instrumental in solving future challenges such as cyber threats, precision healthcare, sustainable energy solutions, real-time logistics optimization, and advanced environmental science modeling.
The NERUDP was launched in 26 February, 2009 by the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) to improve essential urban services in five capital cities included Agartala in Tripura, Aizawl in Mizoram, Gangtok in Sikkim, Kohima in Nagaland and Shillong in Meghalaya. The programme focused on enhancing the quality of life for urban residents by developing drainage systems and sanitation services, sustainable water supply systems and solid waste management systems. The NERUDP wasn’t just a development plan, it felt like a much needed lifeline that was long overdue because of the region’s hilly terrain, slower economic growth and complex social and political landscape.
The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission was part of the National Action Plan on Climate Change. It was launched in January 2010 under the brand ‘Solar India.’ The mission aimed to promote sustainable development using solar energy and compete with traditional sources of electricity. The mission’s ultimate objective was to establish India as a global leader in solar energy. With the accessibility of extended hours of sunlight, India has excellent solar energy potential. According to the National Institute of Solar Energy, India's solar potential is 748 GW with 3% of wasteland to install solar PV modules.
The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA), represents a landmark legislative intervention by the Indian Parliament, designed to bring about accountability, transparency, and efficiency in the real estate sector. Prior to RERA’s enactment, the sector suffered from systemic irregularities such as project delays, diversion of funds, and the absence of a dedicated dispute resolution mechanism.
According to the Niti Aayog report on India's booming gig and platform economy, by 2030, gig workers will constitute approximately 4.1% of India's total workforce, or around 23.5 crore people. Gig workers will now be eligible for the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which is the world’s largest health insurance scheme. Under the AB-PMJAY, the gig workers will be entitled to receive healthcare coverage which is not provided by their employer.
What concerns me most is how this vertical growth - all in the name of development - rarely considers the safety and mobility needs of women. Urban design continues to prioritise speed and vehicles over safety and inclusion. This one-sided approach severely impacts women’s everyday use of public spaces, whether as commuters, roadside vendors, pedestrians, or travellers during odd hours.
