Empowering India’s Electronics Supply Chain: The Role of SPECS, 2020

The Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors (SPECS), launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in April 2020, is a significant policy lever under the National Policy on Electronics (NPE) 2019. India's electronics sector is likely to grow to USD 300 billion by 2026 (MeitY Vision Document, 2022), but 85–90% of electronic components continue to be imported, exposing severe risks to supply chain sovereignty, cost competitiveness, and strategic autonomy.
