This paper examines whether the India-Chile CEPA functions as more than a trade liberalisation agreement, arguing that it operates primarily as a strategic instrument for securing India’s critical mineral supply chains. Over the last two decades, the economic relationship between India and Chile has steadily evolved from a preferential trade framework to a comprehensive economic partnership agreement. The foundation of the bilateral economic engagement was laid in January 2005, culminating in the signing of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) in March 2006.
