On October 21, 2016, the Government of India launched the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), known as UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) under the National Civil Aviation Policy (NCAP), 2016.  The scheme was conceptualised with a 10-year vision to connect tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
